Wine, Beer, Cider and Juices from Iron Railway Vineyard in Merstham, Surrey
A small vineyard, in a slither of land between the A23 and M23, just south of the northern terminus of the latter.
The Iron Railway is one of Surrey's hidden vineyards - planted on the old route of the horse-drawn Croydon, Merstham and Godstone Iron Railway which was open from 1805 to 1842. The vineyard is part of a 7 acre holding at the summit cutting, with 2.5 acres of vines, fruit and vegetables
The Madeleine Sylvaner vines were planted on the calcareous soils in 1982 and 1983, with Angevine and Phoenix being added later.
